Original question

At the beginning of this episode we return to a listener's letter. Some of his questions were presented in an earlier episode. Here he asks Your Eminence, Shaykh ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz: What is the way to strengthen faith in Allah and the Last Day? May Allah reward you with good.

Answer

In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Especially Merciful. All praise belongs to Allah. May Allah send blessings and peace upon the Messenger of Allah, his family, his Companions and those who follow his guidance.

To proceed:

This is an important question deserving attention: what is the way to strengthen faith in Allah and the Last Day?

There are many ways. First, reflecting upon the Noble Quran, giving attention to reading it, and doing so frequently, because it contains great accounts of the Hereafter, Paradise and the Fire, Allah's names and attributes, and the Messengers—peace and blessings be upon them—and their peoples. Whoever reflects upon the Quran has his faith strengthened and his religious practice put right, if Allah grants him success. My advice to every believing man and woman is therefore to give attention to the Quran, recite it frequently and reflect on its meanings, approaching it with a righteous intention and purpose: to know Allah and strengthen faith in Him; to believe in the Hereafter and strengthen that belief; and to do what pleases Allah, brings one near to Him, benefits one in the Hereafter, and brings salvation and happiness there.

Another means is giving attention to hadiths and to the character of the Prophet ﷺ, the Companions and the righteous: listening to the hadiths, the Prophet's ﷺ life and deeds, and the Companions' deeds, their eagerness for good and their fear of Allah, mighty and majestic, so as to follow their example, act as the righteous acted and strive in that.

Another means of strengthening faith is taking oneself to account and remembering that death comes suddenly. What has one done? What has one prepared for the Hereafter? One should prepare before death arrives unexpectedly. Taking oneself to account and considering what one has prepared for the Hereafter strengthens faith, helps one obey Allah and His Messenger, and helps one hasten to repent to Allah of bad deeds and shortcomings. All of this strengthens faith and helps one remember and prepare for the Hereafter.

A fourth means is keeping the company of the righteous, accompanying and sitting with them so as to benefit from their character and knowledge. They remind him of the Hereafter and help him in this. This is one of the means.

A fifth is attending gatherings of knowledge: seeking them out, attending and benefiting from them. Likewise, listening attentively to Friday sermons and other beneficial addresses, and to Quran Radio—listening to the Noble Quran, admonitions and beneficial discussions—so that one benefits, one's heart softens and one's faith grows stronger. May Allah grant everyone success. Yes.

Presenter: O Allah, amen. May Allah reward you with good and be good to you.
