Original question
At the end of her letter, she asks how to perform ghusl after menstruation or janabah using modern washing facilities such as a shower, a tap or other means.
Answer
First, the person washes the private parts. A woman washes away the traces of menstruation or postpartum bleeding. A man or woman in janabah washes the private parts and the surrounding area, removing any traces of blood or other substances, pre-ejaculatory fluid, semen and urine. Each then performs wudu as for prayer, whether the ghusl is after menstruation, postpartum bleeding or janabah. After that, the person pours water over the head three times, then over the body, beginning with the right side and then the left, and completes the wash. This is the Sunnah and the better method. If water is poured over the whole body once, that is sufficient and fulfils the ghusl for janabah or menstruation. The detailed method just described is better: after washing the private parts, perform wudu as for prayer, pour water over the head three times, wash the right side and then the left, and complete the washing of the whole body. This is the better and more complete method. When a woman washes after menstruation, it is recommended that she add sidr leaves to the water; water with sidr is better for ghusl after menstruation or postpartum bleeding. For janabah, however, sidr or anything else is unnecessary; water is sufficient. Whether the person washes from a tap, a pump-operated tap, a shower, or by scooping water from a basin or vessel, all of these are permissible. Praise be to Allah.
