Original question
Some people, when they meet in the morning, say, ‘Good morning’—[what about this]?
Answer
No; ‘Peace be upon you’ is better. Then, after greeting him, he may say, ‘May Allah grant you a good morning,’ or, ‘How are you?’ He begins with the greeting of peace; that is the Sunnah. The other replies, ‘And upon you be peace.’ Then, if he wishes to ask, ‘How are you? How are your children?’ there is no harm.
