Original question

Shaykh al-Islām was asked: Is a particular recitation required in the two Eid prayers, and what should a person say between each pair of takbīrs?

Answer

Praise be to Allah. Whatever he recites is permissible, just as recitation is permissible in comparable prayers. But if he recites Qāf and Iqtarabat, or similar passages transmitted in the reports, that is good.

Between the takbīrs, he praises Allah, extols Him, invokes blessings upon the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and supplicates as he wishes. Scholars have transmitted something like this from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Masʿūd. If he says, “Glory be to Allah; praise be to Allah; there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah; Allah is greatest. O Allah, bless Muḥammad and the family of Muḥammad. O Allah, forgive me and have mercy on me,” that is good. The same applies if he says, “Allah is supremely great; abundant praise belongs to Allah; glory be to Allah morning and evening,” or similar words.

No fixed formula for this is transmitted from the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and the Companions. Allah knows best.
