Original question
Among the reports they attribute to him, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, is that he said: “O Allah, You have brought me out of the place most beloved to me, so settle me in the place most beloved to You.”
Answer
Praise be to Allah. This is invalid. Rather, it is established in al-Tirmidhī and elsewhere that he said to Makkah: “By Allah, you are indeed the most beloved of Allah's lands to Allah.” He also said: “You are indeed the land most beloved to me.” He thus stated that it is the land most beloved both to Allah and to himself.
