Original Q&A · Full displayed answer
The answer permits local moistening while requiring care that the substance does not reach the interior. The following question 157 separately discusses something reaching it unintentionally; that is a separate qualification, not permission to swallow deliberately.

Original question
Esteemed Shaykh, some fasting people experience dryness in the nose or lips and use ointments or moisturisers for it. What is the ruling?
Answer
Some fasting people experience dryness in the nose and lips. There is no objection to using ointment to moisten the lips and nose, or moistening them with water using a cloth or something similar. However, the person must take care that none of the substance used to relieve the dryness reaches his interior.
