This concerns the gaze during prayer. The answer states the prohibition and the recommended direction of the gaze; it does not itself rule that the prayer becomes invalid.

Original question

May a person praying raise his gaze towards the sky during prayer? May Allah reward you.

Answer

Raising the gaze towards the sky during prayer is not permissible. The Prophet ﷺ forbade and warned against it, saying: “People must stop raising their eyes towards the sky, or their sight will not return to them,” and in another wording: “Or it will be snatched away.”

The point is that it is not permissible to raise the gaze towards the sky while praying. The Sunnah is to direct it towards the ground, to the place of prostration. That is the Sunnah; do not raise it towards the sky. Yes.
