Original question
What is the ruling on giving zakah to my mother, father, brother and sister?
Answer
Giving zakah to parents and children does not discharge the obligation according to the majority of scholars; some have even reported scholarly consensus on this. As for giving it to a brother, sister, paternal uncle or aunt, maternal uncles or other relatives, there is no harm if they are poor and eligible for zakah. As for your parents, you support them from your wealth other than zakah. Likewise, you support your children and wife from your wealth, not zakah. Zakah is not given to parents, one's wife or one's children.
But there is no harm in giving it to other relatives if they are poor—brothers, paternal or maternal uncles, paternal cousins or others—if they are poor. Yes: it is charity and maintaining kinship.
Presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
