Original question
The questioner, S. S. from al-Jawf, asks: Is it sinful for a woman to use nail polish on her nails, and what should she do when performing wudu?
Answer
We know of no objection to this, but leaving it is preferable, because there is no need for it and it may prevent water from reaching the skin during wudu.
In sum, leaving it is preferable, using henna is preferable, and the practice of the earlier generations is preferable. If a woman uses it, she must remove it for wudu, because—as we have explained—it prevents water from reaching the skin. Allah is the One who grants success.
