Original question
Your Eminence, the questioner is an Egyptian living in Tabuk. He asks: What are the boundaries and guidelines for prescribed ruqyah? May a person performing ruqyah treat a group of people at one time? What advice do you give to the sick? May you be rewarded.
Answer
Ruqyah is performed with the Quran and good supplications. This is ruqyah, with the hope that Allah will accept it and make it beneficial. The person blows lightly, with a little saliva, over the affected area and recites al-Fātiḥah, some verses, Āyat al-Kursī, or “Say: He is Allah, One” and the two surahs of seeking refuge. The whole Quran is a healing: “Say: For those who believe, it is guidance and a healing” [Fuṣṣilat 41:44].
Ruqyah is therefore performed with the Quran and good supplications over the place of pain. He blows lightly over the painful area in the person's chest, head, hand or foot, recites al-Fātiḥah and whatever else he can of the Quran, and supplicates: “Lord of mankind, remove the harm and heal; You are the Healer. There is no healing but Your healing—a healing that leaves no illness.” He also says: “In the name of Allah I perform ruqyah for you, from everything that harms you, from the evil of every soul or envious eye. May Allah heal you; in the name of Allah I perform ruqyah for you.” This is prescribed ruqyah, while hoping that Allah will make it beneficial and asking Him to accept it, make it beneficial, and heal the sick person. He must believe that Allah is the Healer and that these are means. He asks Allah to heal the patient, recites over him, and hopes that Allah will make his ruqyah beneficial.
He may perform ruqyah for two or three people in front of him, blowing lightly over one and then another and reciting. There is no harm if he is able to do that. With two or three before him, he may blow lightly over their chests, hands or heads, according to the illness. There is no harm; it is not a condition that there be only one person. If there are two or three before him and he blows lightly over one and then another, there is no objection. We know of no objection to this. Yes.
Presenter: May Allah be good to you.
