Original question
She also has some questions about Hajj. She asks: What are the obligatory acts of Hajj in their complete form, so that Allah, glorified and exalted is He, accepts them?
Answer
Hajj has pillars, obligatory duties and prescribed acts, explained in the pilgrimage manuals written by the scholars. We have written a short manual called al-Taḥqīq wa-l-Īḍāḥ li-Kathīr min Masāʾil al-Ḥajj wa-l-ʿUmrah wa-l-Ziyārah. Perhaps you can obtain it from one of the brothers there in al-Qassim. It explains Hajj's pillars, duties and what Allah has prescribed concerning it. Praise be to Allah, it is a concise book containing the benefit you seek.
The pillars of Hajj are four: entering iḥrām for Hajj in the heart—that is, intending Hajj, with the obligation that this be from the mīqāt one passes—standing at ʿArafah; the visitation ṭawāf, meaning ṭawāf al-ifāḍah; and saʿy. These are the four pillars of Hajj.
It has seven obligatory duties explained by the scholars and mentioned in the manual. First: entering iḥrām from the mīqāt one passes. Someone coming from Egypt enters from its mīqāt, al-Juḥfah—that is, Rābigh; someone from Madinah enters from Madinah's mīqāt; someone from Najd enters from the mīqāt of Najd; and someone from Yemen enters from Yemen's mīqāt. Each person enters from the mīqāt for his route. When passing it intending Hajj, he must enter iḥrām from it, and likewise when intending ʿUmrah.
Second: stopping at Muzdalifah after leaving ʿArafāt and spending the night there.
Third: spending the eleventh and twelfth nights in Minā for someone who leaves early, and the third night as well for someone who does not: the eleventh, twelfth and thirteenth nights.
Fourth: stoning the pillars. This is one of the obligatory duties of Hajj.
Fifth: shaving or shortening the hair for a man, and shortening it for a woman. A man has a choice between shaving and shortening; a woman only shortens.
Sixth: the farewell ṭawāf. After completing Hajj, a person must perform the farewell ṭawāf when departing for his country.
Seventh: remaining at ʿArafah until sunset. If he stands at ʿArafah during the day, he remains until sunset. This is the seventh. If he stands there at night, standing at night suffices, praise be to Allah. But if he stands there during the day, he must remain until sunset.
These are seven obligatory duties. Whoever leaves one of them must offer a sacrifice, unless he has a valid religious excuse. This is explained in detail in the pilgrimage manuals.
There are also prescribed acts for the pilgrim: reciting the talbiyah from the time he enters iḥrām, remembering Allah, mighty and majestic, frequently, performing ṭawāf frequently if possible, and other religious deeds of which the Hajj or ʿUmrah pilgrim takes the opportunity, such as giving charity to the poor and needy, reading the Quran frequently, and other good deeds in the Noble Sanctuary in Makkah or in Madinah if he visits it.
These are complementary acts with merit. The obligatory duties and pillars are as we explained. If you obtain the manual mentioned, al-Taḥqīq wa-l-Īḍāḥ, you will find what you need, Allah willing. Yes.
Presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
