Original question
Many people, after committing a sin, undergoing its prescribed punishment and entering prison, say: “It is Allah's decree and destiny; praise be to Allah. Allah wrote this for me.” What about this?
Answer
Allah wrote it, but the person must repent nonetheless. It is decree and destiny, but he must repent. He praises Allah for what He decreed: that he was punished for it and the prescribed punishment was carried out, and that he bore Allah's decree patiently and accepts it. But he must hasten to repent, regret the act, give it up and not return to it. Allah's decree must not lead him to persist in sin or return to it. Rather, he consoles himself with Allah's decree and praises Allah for what He decreed: that the prescribed punishment was carried out, that he repented to Allah and returned to Him, glorified and exalted is He. He must not make divine decree an excuse for sin.
