Original question

What is the best remembrance of Allah?

Answer

The best remembrance is: “There is no deity worthy of worship except Allah alone, with no partner. His is the dominion and His is all praise, and He has power over all things,” together with glorifying Allah, praising Him and declaring His greatness. He ﷺ says: “The words most beloved to Allah are four: Glory be to Allah; all praise belongs to Allah; there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah; and Allah is the Greatest.” He also says: “The enduring good deeds are: Glory be to Allah; all praise belongs to Allah; there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah; Allah is the Greatest; and there is no power and no strength except through Allah.” But this must be accompanied by remembrance with the heart and limbs, acting in obedience to Allah and abandoning disobedience to Him.

Question: What if, during the day, a person only says “There is no deity worthy of worship except Allah”?

Answer: That is good. The Prophet ﷺ says: “Whoever says a hundred times in a day, ‘There is no deity worthy of worship except Allah alone, with no partner. His is the dominion and His is all praise, and He has power over all things,’ will have the equivalent of freeing ten slaves”—meaning that he frees them—“Allah will record a hundred good deeds for him and erase a hundred bad deeds from him, and he will be protected from Satan that day until evening. No one will bring anything better than what he has brought except a person who does more than he did.” So let the servant remember Allah frequently. But if he adds glorification, praise and declaring Allah's greatness, it is more complete.
