Original question
Does the hadith about love also mention giving precedence to the Prophet's ﷺ Sunnah as part of love?
Answer
Yes. Giving precedence to love of the Prophet ﷺ and to obedience to Allah by fulfilling obligations and avoiding prohibitions is part of complete love. Committing sins is a sign of weakness in love.
… Love of others besides Allah: the love through which one worships others besides Allah—seeking rescue from them, making vows to them, and reviling the religion for their sake. The point is that it leads to worshipping others besides Allah, as the polytheists did with their deities. They love them as they love Allah, by calling upon them, seeking rescue from them, making vows to them and the like. The point is when this love is accompanied by worship of others besides Allah.
But if someone loves his household or his people and gives them preference to the extent that he disobeys Allah for their sake, this is a deficiency and weakness in faith. He may disobey Allah for his wife, his child or his father; this is a deficiency in faith. We ask Allah for well-being.
