Selected explanation · Selected continuous excerpt — fully translated
Two consecutive statements from the opening of a longer answer about analogy, Majmu al-Fatawa 20/505. Both the common effective cause and the absence of a legally relevant difference are translated. This is a complete translation of the selected passage, not the full answer.

Selected explanation
Sound analogy is, for example, when the effective cause on which the ruling in the original case depends is present in the new case, without any countervailing factor in the new case that prevents that cause from producing its ruling. The revealed law never comes in opposition to an analogy of this kind. The same applies to analogy by eliminating any relevant difference: that is, there is no difference between the two cases that has an effect under the revealed law. The revealed law does not come in opposition to an analogy of this kind.
