Original question
I am a Muslim man—praise be to Allah—and regularly pray in the mosque. Yet I often miss the congregational Fajr prayer because sleep overcomes me and I find it difficult to get up, despite having an alarm clock. I think about this often and fear hypocrisy for myself. Am I considered a hypocrite in these circumstances, and what do you advise?
Answer
You must do everything within your ability to make it possible to pray with the congregation. This includes having an alarm clock, going to sleep early, and asking the family members with you to wake you in case you do not hear the alarm. Allah, mighty and exalted, says, “Whoever is mindful of Allah—He makes his affairs easy for him” [al-Talaq 65:4]. He also says, “Be mindful of Allah as much as you are able” [al-Taghabun 64:16]. May Allah make your affairs easy and help you perform what He has made obligatory upon you.
