Original question

He was asked about the wording of takbīr at the two Eids and its timing.

Answer

Praise be to Allah. The soundest view about takbīr, held by most of the early generations and jurists among the Companions and imams, is to pronounce it after every prayer from dawn on the day of ʿArafah until the end of the days of Tashrīq. It is also prescribed for everyone to say takbīr aloud when going out to the Eid prayer. The four imams agree on this.

The form transmitted from most of the Companions, and also narrated as a saying attributed to the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, is: “Allah is greatest; Allah is greatest; there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah; Allah is greatest; Allah is greatest; and to Allah belongs all praise.” Saying “Allah is greatest” three times is also permissible. Some jurists say the takbīr three times only; others say it three times and add: “There is no deity worthy of worship except Allah alone, without partner. To Him belongs dominion and to Him belongs praise, and He has power over all things.”

As for takbīr within the prayer, the follower pronounces it following the imam. Most of the Companions, may Allah be pleased with them, and the imams say seven in the first rakʿah and five in the second.

If he wishes to say between two takbīrs, “Glory be to Allah; praise be to Allah; there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah; Allah is greatest. O Allah, forgive me and have mercy on me,” that is good, as reported from some of the early generations. Allah knows best.
