The answer concerns the fruits and vegetables described as not themselves subject to crop zakah. Read the conditions concerning a completed year and trade intention together with the answer. Its preceding discussion establishes the monetary nisab; the answer does not remove that requirement.

Original question
Esteemed Shaykh, concerning fruit that is not subject to zakah: if a person sells it, is zakah required on its value?
Answer
These fruits and vegetables are not subject to zakah. However, if a person sells them, zakah is due on their price if it remains until a complete year has elapsed and consists of gold, silver, or something functioning in their place. If instead he sells them for goods—for example, vehicles, fabrics, or utensils—those goods are likewise not subject to zakah unless he intends to trade with what he received in exchange. If he intends trade, zakah becomes due as zakah on trade goods, which we will discuss later, if Allah wills.
