Original question

The questioner asks: What about the rites of qirān and tamattuʿ? Is a sacrifice offered in them?

Answer

As explained, tamattuʿ and qirān entail a sacrificial offering. It is not called uḍḥiyah; it is called hady or fidyah. People commonly call it fidī or fidyah. Allah calls it hady, the hady of tamattuʿ. He, majestic and exalted, says: “Whoever performs ʿUmrah followed by Hajj must offer whatever sacrificial animal is easy to obtain” [al-Baqarah 2:196].

Someone who enters iḥrām for ʿUmrah during the months of Hajj and then performs Hajj, or enters iḥrām for Hajj and ʿUmrah together and completes them, must offer a hady. On Eid day or during the days of Minā, he slaughters an animal on his behalf, or offers one-seventh of a camel or cow. If his wife is with him, there are two offerings; if his father is with him, three: one for him, one for his wife and one for his father. Likewise, if children accompany them and have entered iḥrām with them, each owes an offering if they are performing tamattuʿ or qirān. Yes.

Presenter: May Allah reward you with good, Your Eminence.
