Selected explanation

“No calamity occurs except by Allah’s permission; and whoever believes in Allah, He guides his heart.” Ibn Masʿūd said: “It is the man who is struck by a calamity and knows that it is from Allah, so he is content and submits.” The fortunate person seeks forgiveness for his faults and is patient with calamities, as He, Exalted is He, said: “So be patient; Allah’s promise is true, and seek forgiveness for your sin.” The wretched person is distressed by calamities and uses divine decree to justify his faults.
