Original question

She asks: If a person borrows things and does not return them at the specified time, or fails to return them through carelessness while their owners need the borrowed items, does that person incur sin?

Answer

If a time has been specified, he must return it when that period ends, and he sins if he fails to do so. If they lend him a car, for example, for a day or two, he must return it after that period. Likewise, if they give him other things to use, he must return them after the time they specified. He may not be careless about this, because it is wrongdoing. Being careless is wrongdoing and is one of the causes of strained relations between neighbours and friends. If he transgresses in his use of the borrowed item, he is liable for it.

The point is that he must take care of the borrowed item, safeguard it, and return it at the specified time. If no time was specified, he should promptly return it when he has finished what he needed it for. Yes.

Presenter: May Allah reward you, Your Eminence, bless you and your knowledge, and benefit the Muslims through you.
