Selected explanation

For this reason, seeking forgiveness was prescribed at the conclusion of deeds. He, Exalted is He, said: “Those who seek forgiveness before dawn” [Āl ʿImrān 3:17]. Some of them said: “They kept the night alive with prayer, then when the time before dawn came, they were commanded to seek forgiveness.” In the Ṣaḥīḥ, when the Prophet, may Allah’s blessings and peace be upon him, finished his prayer, he would seek forgiveness three times and say: “O Allah, You are Peace, and from You is peace. Blessed are You, Possessor of Majesty and Honor.”
