Original question
Muḥammad ʿAbd Allāh from al-Qaṣīm says that he has several questions about requesting permission to enter. In his first question he says: Your Eminence, the Prophet ﷺ said, ‘Permission is requested three times; if permission is given to you, [enter], otherwise return.’ Could you explain this noble hadith?
Answer
Yes, because the people whose permission is being requested may be occupied; they may be occupied. If you ask permission three times and receive no response, leave, so that you neither keep yourself waiting nor trouble the household. You say, ‘Peace be upon you,’ then repeat it a second time and a third. If no one answers, leave off, so as not to burden or trouble them: they may be occupied. The hadith is authentically reported from the Prophet ﷺ. It contains good and great benefit for Muslims, because persisting may trouble the household. Yes.
Presenter: May Allah grant you good.
